A Day in the Life of Madison: Beach Edition

This past week I've done nothing but lounge around on the sandy beaches, and I feel completely refreshed and ready to take on the school year (which happens to start in about two weeks!). But man, do I miss it a ton. Ninety degree plus weather is where I feel most comfortable!

Last year, I went with my boyfriend's family to the same beach, and I was amazed how small minded I was when it came to beach trips. They did things so differently in the heat! This year, he went with my family, and now he's sitting in the air conditioned confines of his own bedroom, peeling much like a reptile (sorry, that was a little bit gross).

I thought to myself what better way to make the launching of this site official than by posting a fun little travel blog!

So without further ado, here is how I do beach vacations!

Starting the day off, I find myself stretching awake at any time between nine and 9:30, and the first thing I like to do is open the window! My family normally likes to stay in oceanfront condos on the twentieth-something floor, and when the shades are drawn back, the sun glares into the room quite angrily, but it makes me incredibly happy! Once my eyes finally adjust to the light, I mosey towards the kitchen for breakfast.

Most days while we were here, my mom busied herself in the kitchen with promises of bacon and eggs, but today held a chill morning, so my breakfast consisted of a plethora of fruit. In a typical Madison-style fruit salad, I like to toss in watermelon (which is my all-time favorite), pineapple (a close second), blueberries, and strawberries (and the occasional apple and banana).

My boyfriend is already up at this point, because we are polar opposites, and he is a morning person, and not a night owl like myself. I have to all but drag him out onto the balcony and away from shark week.

Breakfast is normally short-lived, because my family are die-hard beach fanatics like myself. According to us, if we're not at the beach for the entire day... it's a day wasted.

By the time we get down onto the sand and set our things down by the water, it's about 10:30, at the latest eleven.

We remain at the beach until three, only moving from our spots to get lunch. The place we like to stay at is right next to a pier, which is home to a little fish shack (which sounds totally sketchy, now that I think about it. But it has the most AMAZING shrimp sandwiches!).

The day at the beach is filled with swimming past the breaking point of the waves (and me struggling to stay afloat, because I cannot swim), lounging in the sun, and making my boyfriend accompany me on a walk down the shore.

When we head back up to the condo, we shower and begin to get ready for dinner. Here's what I wore!

My yellow tank is from Old Navy (which you'll come to find is where I get a lot of my clothes from!) in a size small, and by tying a knot into the bottom, you can make it so that the top isn't so long! It is the perfect casual, every-day look that can be transformed into something a little more formal easily! My shorts are also from Old Navy, and my shoes are from Target! I find that Target is one of the best places to get sandals for the summer, especially if you live in a place like I do, where summer only lasts for three months out of the year. It's just not practical to spend $150 on shoes that last for one season! My little bag is from H&M, but it's a few years old, so it's no longer being made!

Bonus outfit! I wore this a few nights ago! My top and shorts are both from Old Navy (shocker)!

My mom is a firm believer in eating out every night on vacation, because as a mother of a nine-year-old and a very picky eater (i.e. me), cooking is what she needs a break from the most!

Tonight we dine at a cute little Mexican place that is filled with fresh ingredients! Do you ever go out to eat and taste how fresh something is? Like you don't feel terrible after eating a tremendous amount? That's how we felt today!

Normally after dinner, we'll all do something fun together! This can be anything from shopping, to mini golf! Which, by the way, was something we did the other day, and I got FOUR hole-in-ones! Guys, seriously, that never happens to me ever. I suck at golf.

We normally mess around until it starts to get dark, and if I wasn't so tired, I would have asked my boyfriend to go for a late night walk with me on the shore when we got back to our place. But tonight, we shall stay in, and watch shark week.

What do you like to do for fun on vacation? Are you as much of a beach fanatic as me?

xoxo, Madison
